Where Mathematics Comes From
Where Mathematics Comes From: How The Embodied Mind Brings Mathematics Into Being is an interesting read about our subconscious and all things numbers. This book is not for light reading. If you have ever asked yourself what is the meaning of mathematics, you would appreciate this book. I would say that some of the concepts are interesting to a broader range of people as an example in one instance the authors present evidence for arithmetic ability and understanding using puppets in six-month-old babies, illustrating clearly that some basic mathematics is innate not just not purely a matter of culture. But overall it deals in very complex mathematical thinking and heavy abstraction that would be best suited to someone in the field or very passionate about mathematics.
